Mount Lokon Erupts (North Sulawesi, Indonesia), July 14, 2011 - National Disaster Management Agency said the Mount Lokon in North Sulawesi, erupted on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:45 pm with a burst of incandescent material, sand, and ash about 1,500 meters.

"There has been a major eruption at Mount Lokon," said Head of Data and Information National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said here on Thursday night.


Sutopo explained, a large eruption resulted in forest fires that are located around Mount Lokon.

At this time BNPB, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and related agencies of local government is conducting an evacuation in disaster-prone locations.

He added that since 0600 until 12:00 pm last've looked thick white smoke with a height of 100 to 150 meters.

He also added, in the last few hours have been about 25 times in a volcanic earthquake and 30 times the shallow volcanic earthquakes at Mount Lokon. In addition, in vibrations with amplitude volcanic tremor 0.5 to 4 millimeters.

Meanwhile, Mount Lokon has been determined to be the status of "Look out" since Sunday, July 10, 2011. BNPB and local governments have been evacuating residents gradually.

BNPB also asked people living around Mount Lokon to be aware of increased activity at Mount Lokon.
